About The Seed:
KS Bill Snyder is a medium maturity, medium-short wheat out of the K-State Hays breeding program. This variety had proven itself as a very high yielder in both grain only and dual-purpose production systems. KS Bill Snyder has a solid disease package with good to intermediate resistance of stripe, leaf and stem rust along with strong tolerance to WSMV and TriMV. It is also resistant to soilborne mosaic virus allowing it to move into central Kansas where it has shown high yield potential. KS Bill Snyder also has good drought tolerance, high tillering capacity, great grazing potential, excellent straw strength and good quality.
Where to Grow
KS Bill Snyder has performed well across the Central Plains and is very competitive in the High Plains. The high yield ceiling and shorter habit of this variety makes it an ideal choice for high management irrigated production. While the drought tolerance and virus resistance makes it a good choice for dryland as well. KS Bill Snyder has also started to make a name for itself as one of the most capable dual-purpose wheats on the market. This variety can truly do it all!
What’s in a Name?
KS Bill Snyder is named after the renowned Kansas State football coach of the same name. Bill Snyder coached for 21 years at Kansas State and in that time more than doubled the lifetime wins of the team (130 wins from 1938-1988, 170 wins under Snyder). Coach Snyder is a five-time National Coach of the Year award winner and boasts many other achievements besides. Coach Snyder is certainly a model for perseverance and leadership, and we are happy to honor him with the name of this variety.
