About The Seed:

KS Tradition is a late maturing, medium tall wheat from K-State Hays Breeding program. KS Tradition has very strong drought tolerance and good acid soil tolerance. This variety also comes equipped with one of the strongest leaf health packages in our lineup, being resistant to all three rusts and soil borne mosaic virus, moderately resistant to barley yellow dwarf virus, and tolerant to both WSMV and TriMV.

Where to Grow

KS Tradition is primarily adapted to the High Plains where it has performed very well in variety performance trials. The top notch virus resistance should make it a standout variety for areas where virus is common. The later maturity of this variety will also make it useful for more northern growers without sacrificing too much performance for more southern producers.

What’s in a Name?

KS Tradition is named for the long tradition of wheat breeding at Kansas State University. Formal wheat breeding at KSU started in 1906 (although informal breeding experiments happened before then) and released its first variety in 1917 called KanRed. Since then, Kansas State has released 72 varieties, mostly hard red winter, but also hard white winter and even one soft red winter variety.
