Top Highlights:
About The Seed:
KS Chikaskia is a new, quality focused, variety from Kansas Wheat Alliance. This variety has high levels of soluble fiber which leads to higher levels of water adsorption in the flour. This specialized quality trait can bring extra value back to the producer.
Where To Grow
KS Chikaskia should be a high performer across the Central Plains wheat growing regions. Kansas Wheat Alliance is working with Farm Strategy to develop an ‘Identity Preserved’ marketing program for this variety due to the high fiber content of it’s flour. Growers should be aware of quality standards and specialized grain marketing before deciding to grow this variety. Contact your seed dealer or representatives from KWA or Farm Strategy to learn more.
What’s in a Name?
KS Chikaskia is named after the Chikaskia River which flows through south central Kansas and north central Oklahoma where this variety is most highly adapted to. Kansas State wheat breeder Allan Fritz wanted to name this variety after a body of water due to the higher fiber content and, therefore, higher water adsorption characteristics of it’s flour.
